The Experience Hendrix Tour Buses Roll in.....

http://www.experiencehendrixtour.com/

So I end where I began....as I arrived in Durham the rain was falling and the buses were rolling in. The storms and tornados were about but I was here for a very good rock show. It is early Spring 2010. I just sold my spare ticket about 10 feet from the stage to my new friend who has the same first name as me. We had a drink across the street and we went into the venue. I passed my ongoing concert buddy Craig on my way in. Later I saw him on the front row. We are all such seat snobs. Such is the way of the music lover. Music is my passion. It always has been and always will be. I got a pocket full of tickets and a whole lotta plans.

See you down the road.

The show is over....

Yeah that is Chris Layton video taping us...it was a standing roar of applause as the three hour plus show ended.

The show and the Jimi Hendrix Experience tour 2010 is over at the moment I took this picture. It was a fabulous mix of some of the best musicians in circulation right now. It was a moment. A moment to see more talent on one stage than is possible in these days of electronic and digital outpourings of sonic confusion. OK I am getting too deep. Maybe the Hendrix music took me somewhere I had not been in a while. Well it was good. Yeah it was real good.

Ernie Isley!

Ernie Isley. Is there anyone out there alive in the 1970's who don't know who the Isley Brothers are?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Isley_Brothers

Ernie shared his story of the months that Jimi Hendrix actually crashed in the house with him when he was a kid. This went on for several months. It was a cool story of watching someone with no home go to international stardom in a period of months. Ernie has it. He can make the guitar wail. It was good. Real good. You know it was.. look at that smile on Joe Satriani's face.

Billy Cox!

Billy Cox. The bass player who actually played with Jimi Hendrix. He was out talking to the fans and signing things before the show. You can tell he loves what he does. It was cool to see him play and think of the history.

Here is a link to a nice interview and article about Billy:

Robert Randolph!

Robert Randolph brought his family band. http://www.robertrandolph.net/
He tore it up as he always does. When I see him in concert as I have before, I think of a word. Fluent. 'Nuff said.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd...

Kenny Wayne Shepherd. http://www.kennywayneshepherd.net/

Well there were some stellar guitarists on the stage on this night. Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Ernie Isley, on and on....my favorite for some reason on this night was Kenny Wayne Shepherd. He smoked the songs he played. He was playing with Chis Layton on drums and you could tell they were very tight from their previous touring days. I saw Kenny open with Double Trouble for a double billing of ZZ Top and Ted Nugent several years back. Let's just say I made a trip to Charlotte to see them open the show. They ROCKED. Oh if only Stevie Ray Vaughn was still alive. What a band he had. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Ray_Vaughan

Yes, yes, I really want to catch Kenny playing on tour. I really enjoy his talent and intensity on stage. He blew me away on this night.

Jonny Lang and Brad Whitford!

Jonny Lang and Brad Whitford were rocking the Hendrix. Jonny always plays with such intensity and it was very cool to see him playing off the maturity of the veteran Aerosmith rocker. Brad just makes it look easy and sounds great.

Doug Wimbish in the aisle....

Doug Wimbish jumped off the stage and came right into the seats to play. The band Living Colour kicked off the night with their opening set of Jimi Hendrix songs. http://www.livingcolour.com/
Doug is quite the player. He has played for a vast range of artists, including Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, Madonna, George Clinton, Bomb The Bass, Depeche Mode and Joe Satriani. He was rocking and the band was on fire playing the Hendrix covers.

It was the first song of The Jimmy Hendrix Experience show in Durham, North Carolina. It was the closing show of the tour and the all star cast was lined up to play for over three hours! Whew...what a show.

What a great show. Steve Forbert is not to be missed. He signed all the stuff for people. Yeah I got my new cd signed. He took pictures with everyone. He played his heart out and he sang his songs well. It was a fine evening. One that makes life feel good. Good indeed.

Love that Sound....

Notice the boots on the plywood...great percussion for a Steve Forbert show! Love the sound....

Steve!

Steve Forbert. I have been a fan for many decades. He hails from a town I spent five years of my life in, Meridian, Mississippi.
It seems like yesterday when MTV started up and he was all over the network with his hits. Another Southern boy hittin' the charts. I thought it was very cool and still do. Somewhere back in the Down South Radio Hour blog there are some other pictures of his first visit to this venue. Great stuff always. With his touring schedule we were very fortunate to see him perform. This is the type show I most enjoy, up close, personal, he plays for way over two hours, and it rocked. If you have not seen Steve you should go as soon as you can. Words really don't do him justice. 'Nuff said...

Yes, Yes, Listen to the lyrics...

Steve Forbert is in the house!

Just the other night in Carrboro at the Arts Center. Steve Forbert was back for a show and his guitar was resting on the stage just before another fabulous performance.
