Peter Frampton! The Guitar!

Reunited with his favorite guitar after thirty-one years! This guitar was in a plane crash in 1980. There are stories all over the internet so you can go read those as they are quite interesting if you are a guitar lover like me. The cool thing was I had several looks at about fifty photos of the actual restoration process on an iPad held by a representative of Gibson guitar before the show. I love the fact they left some of the effects of the history in the restoration. I also think it is cool that I saw Peter perform with this guitar in the 1970's and again last night.

If you want to read about the guitar her are a couple of links:

Last night, yes another Peter Frampton show in the string of many stretching back to the 1970's. I never tire of them and in fact I think I may move to making this an annual ritual to find one to go see. It was very cool he came to our backyard! Thank you Peter Frampton (and band) for an awesome rock show! I still feel good!

I'm off on another adventure this morning. Until next time, I'll see you, Down the Road!

Woke up this morning
With a wine glass in my hand
Whose wine, what wine?

Must have been a dream
I don't believe where I've been
Come on let's do it again

Do you, you feel like I do?
Do you, you feel like I do?

My friend got busted just the other day
They said don't walk
Don't walk, don't walk away

He drove into a taxi bent the boot hit the back
Had to play some music
Otherwise he'd crack

Do you, you feel like I do?
Do you, you feel like I do?

Do you, you feel like I do?
How do you feel?
Do you, you feel like I do?

Champagne for breakfast
And a sherman in my hand
Bright top, blue tails it never fails

Must have been a dream
I don't believe where I've been
Come on let's do it again?

Do you, you feel like I do?
Do you, you feel like I?

Yeah, do you feel like we do?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

The Best Solo of the Night!

Adam Lester and Peter last night.

All photos on this site are ©Down South Productions 2012, unless otherwise noted.

I was waiting for this song to be played last night as Peter always plays a great solo on this one. "I'll Give You Money." I really can't explain how this feels when you stand there and watch this live. You should do yourself a favor and go feel it. This song plays quite a while and just gets better moment by moment. Yeah baby! We ROCKED last night!

Here is a link to the video of this song from a recent show. The guitar work gets better as the song progresses. I love the solo work in this one.

'll give you money
I'll give you lovin'
I'll give you everything
But heaven above

I'll give you all I have right now

I'll give you money
I'll give you lovin'
Everything

I'll give you kisses
Sweet as honey
I'll do you everything
'Cept make the sun shine

If I could change the world right now

Make you happy
Stop your cryin'
Everything
Everything

All of my life I've been dreaming
'Till you came my way
All of your life aren't you searchin'
For love forever

All I need is someone to believe in me
Even if you're losing
Watching from behind everything

I'll give you sun and...
Lost all my money
I threw it all away
But now I'm happy

I'll give you all my love right now

I'll give you money
I'll give you lovin'
Everything
Everything...

Sign, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours....

Peter Frampton last night at the War Memorial Auditorium in Greensboro, North Carolina.

He ROCKED the house. He always does. I am one who believes Peter does not get the accolades he deserves. Even if you discount his great vocals and songwriting his guitar work is awesome! He never stops smiling and he will play until his younger band almost drops dead on stage from fatigue. Per Frampton is a Rock Star in the first degree. "Nuff said.

In the photo above he is covering the classic Stevie Wonder song "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."

Like a fool I went and stayed too long
Now I'm wondering if your love's still strong
Oo, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours!

Then that time I went and said goodbye
Now I'm back and not ashamed to cry
Oo, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours!

Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours
(You got my future in your hands)
Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours
(You got my future in your hands)

I've done a lot of foolish things
That I really didn't mean, didn't I?

Seen a lot of things in this old world
When I touch them, they mean nothing, girl
Oo, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours!

Oowee baby, you set my soul on fire
That's why I know you're my heart's only desire

Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours
(You got my future in your hands)
Here I am baby
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours
(You got my future in your hands)

Lindsey Buckingham. HE ROCKS!

So here is my short story. I was able to pick out my chair for this show during the sound check. I picked right in front of the microphone like I prefer. It was a great place to watch. I laughed about someone's comment about seeing up his nose. I told them I once took pictures of Robert Palmer in 1978 that his dentist would love for his dental file. I was that close. I still remember that show. It was awesome.

I want to thank my pal Tess Mangum Ocana at the Arts Center. http://www.artscenterlive.org Tess knows her music and I really respect what she has done with this venue. I enjoy just talking to her for a few minutes as I visit shows here. She is very special. This place continues to prosper and be a showcase for awesome artists. Great job Tess.

So. The show.I have seen the Big Machine as Lindsey calls it. Fleetwood Mac. I was a fan even when Bob Welch played guitar. I have promoted this band since I was very young on the radio. They still rank as one of the greats in the rock music world.

This was my first experience with the solo "small machine" as Lindsey called it. I got the impression he enjoyed this night as well as any he had ever played. Most songs ended in a standing and very loud ovation. He deserved everyone of them. It was that damn good. He stood there and told a story, then he would hit a note kicking into a series of solos that really at times just took my breath. He would lean to the front of the stage literally two feet from me picking with only his fingers and fretting four fingers wide without even opening his eyes. He would sing the vocals with such intensity that he seemed to be beyond even standing there. It felt like an out of body experience. At times I would just look and think "Is this really happening?"

Honestly I had a buzz after this show. That doesn't happen to me very often. The last time I really remember it was a Van Halen show that rocked me really good. It is one of those that you feel when you wake up and start thinking about what you saw, heard, and felt.

I told Lindsey that last night. I didn't bog him down too long. His daughter was texting him from afar and it came to me as I watched him on his iPhone that he is just like the rest of us. He has a life. He just has a very special talent. I wished him safe travels until the next time.

I can't explain what happened last night. I have said that before. I was there. I felt it. I smiled and thought how lucky I am to enjoy great music like this from so close. Yeah I work at it. I relish every moment. I feel it. It is damn good. Yeah baby!

Until next week, I'll see you, down the road.

A song from last night. I sung every word of it softly to myself. Lindsey explains it in this video just like last night. He is such a poet when he speaks. I really like that.

Big Love

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2sXHfn81qA

Looking out for love
In the night so still
Oh I'll build you a kingdom
In that house on the hill
Looking out for love
Big, big love

You said that you love me
And that you always will
Oh you begged me to keep you
In that house on the hill
Looking out for love
Big, big love

I wake up alone
With it all
I wake up
But only to fall

Looking out for love
Big, big love
Just looking out for love
Big, big love

Here is another one Lindsey played:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P54zsg_LqZ0

I really should be saying goodnight
I really shouldn't stay anymore
It's been so long since I held ya
I've forgotten what love is for

I should run
On the double
I think I'm in trouble
I think I'm in trouble
I think I'm in trouble

So come to me darlin' and hold me
Let your honey keep you warm
Been so long since I held ya
I've forgotten what love is for

I should run
On the double
I think I'm in trouble
I think I'm in trouble
I think I'm in trouble
I think I'm in trouble

Lindsey and me last night after the show. I wanted a really cool picture with him and of course he was smiling just before and after this picture was taken. In fact he was in quite a good mood given the sold-out, small-venue-reaction to his performance. He was very happy with constant standing ovations and quite frankly he deserved them. He played with such intensity and he gave everything he had on the guitar and his vocals. He was 120%. I cannot express how I appreciate an artist who plays the performance like this. I was two feet from his guitar watching him finger pick at ultra-fast speed and singing vocals like he was in front of 30,000 people. He has been and he will be again. I felt very special to be standing in front of this player for a couple of hours. I told him that a little later.

One word. Awesome. 'Nuff said.

Setlist.

The setlist from my chair. I read it through the show and a couple of songs were stuck in between songs which was nice. I thought the list was great! I should have snagged the paper but I watched the girl beside me want it. I smiled as she took it in glee.

Lindsey Buckingham. Some of the guitars.

The guitars. At least some of them. There were three racks all tuned in different ways with capos in different positions. Ready for action on demand. Custom. These tools are not for the regular player. It is a special night. Lindsey Buckingham is in the house.

Just being here for this show is giving me a buzz. A night later as I write this I still feel it. It is not easy for me to find that feeling given all my live music experience. Yeah. It was that damn good.
