John Frinzi and Friends!

John Frinzi (and friends), Doyle Grisham, TC Mitchell, http://tcmitchellmusic.com/ and Sunny Jim all jamming after the Jerry Jeff show under the protection of the Casa Marina cover. Man that tropical rain was brutal! This was one of my favorite parts of MOTM 2006. The jam session was very cool as there were all kinds of players that came and went until like 02:30 AM. A long day but the music was very awesome. I really like this kind of venue where everyone plays and has fun.

Jerry Jeff Walker in Key West!

Jerry Jeff on stage in Key West. I took this picture right as he took the stage. Jerry Jeff put on the show of his life from what I saw. He really seemed to be having a great time and had tons of energy all through the show. This was a really fun show vs. a solo show. Long live Jerry Jeff.

Justin Neal and James "Sunny Jim" White

This is a really cool picture. This is backstage just before the Jerry Jeff Walker http://www.jerryjeff.com/ show in Key West, Meeting of the Minds 2006. http://www.phip.com/

Justin Neal, son of the lengendary Fred Neal http://www.fredneil.com/ was taking care of Jerry Jeff and his folks while in Key West...in fact that is Jerry Jeff's guitar case on Justin's shoulder.. I asked him to take a picture with Sunny Jim as James always takes a great picture even in a pretty constant tropical rain! Thanks Justin, you are really a nice fellow. I wanted a picture with him but honestly I look bad enough without a combination Florida rain and a bad hair night. Nice picture guys. Rock on Fred Neil. Your music still lives on.

Peter Mayer Acoustic Late Night.

Here is a picture I took of Peter Mayer http://www.petermayer.com/ playing acoustic with some other guys...let's just say it was "real late" one night...most of the Coral Reefer band was there as were a few locals and then the rest of us. It wasn't too many hours after this picture was taken that I watched the sun come up across the Atlantic standing in the water with one of my old friends Jimmy Jeffries talking about old times. Key West...there is something funny in the water down there.

The Green Parrot Tip Jar.

I love the label on this tip jar at the Green Parrot Bar. It sits right on the counter in front of the band. it puts a smile on my face every time I see it! http://www.greenparrot.com/

The Danny Morris Band!

Danny Morris on stage at the Green Parrot bar in Key West. http://www.dannymorrisband.com/
http://www.greenparrot.com/

This is a long story. It starts in 1985 or so when I met Danny in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was quite a great guitar player even then. We met at my pal "Bump's Blues Shack....http://www.piedmontblues.org/sections/kba/bubbak1994.html
Bubba Klinefelter had a cool new guitar shop he had just opened and I was hanging out there in a regular basis. Bob Margolin would stop by on occasion and he had this really nice old acoustic-electric Gibson guitar that was on consignment for an unbelieveable price of $350. I am still kicking myself for not owning that one...anyhow I hit it off with all my pals in the shop and took guitar lessons for a while from Danny. He taught me some really nice stuff. One of the cool things was using Bob's ES335 to play on...Danny moved on to the Nighthawk's band replacing the great Jimmy Thackery. That's just how good he is. http://www.thenighthawks.com/Bubba is now at Guitar Center in Greensboro and I just saw him last week. All is well!

Meanwhile back to November 2006. Danny is awesome! A three piece band, they just plain rock! They play it behind their back and right in your face. Folks it don't get any better than this. This is where Stevie Ray meets Dick Dale. Danny just plain smokes the frets off that Stratocaster. Go see him soon. If you like Surf Rock or blues...he can do it all. He has the flame baby and they don't make them like Danny everyday. In fact I think that mold is broke for sure.

Bonerama!!!

Bonerama! http://www.bonerama.net/newsevents.html
...at the Green Parrot in Key West. I have to say the Green Parrot bar has become my favorite place to see music in Key West. There are always great bands there... it just never fails. This picture was taken on Halloween night. What an awesome show. we had so much fun watching the costume contest. Halloween is a great time in Key West, you just never know what you will see...in fact I think I will keep some of my pictures off this web log! Go see Bonerama...their version of 'Frankenstein" was awesome on halloween night! OK if you are not familiar with that song it was performed by the Edgar Winter band before some of you were born...but that is ok, there were great songs written before I was born and I still love them, so rock on!

Greg "Fingers" Taylor!

I took this picture at the Hog's Breath during one of Greg's many shows during the first week of November. As I have said before this man is one of the best if not the best harp player alive. It is so cool to see him play live. Do yourself a favor and go buy all his cds. http://www.fingerstaylor.net/

Doyle Grisham!

Doyle Grisham and me at Meeting of the Minds 2006.

Doyle was all over the town playing with every band and most every stage. Doyle is the greatest and he loves to play. Man do I love to hear him play! There were shirts around town that said "More Doyle!" Yes I want one of those....

Another Fabulous Key West Sunset!

Another great sunset right behind the Casa Marina. What a nice place to watch the sun go down! I took this picture right beside the small beach stage while enjoying some great music and the company of some old friends. Ain't life grand.

The Blues Brothers...Another Great Key West Day.

It's 90 miles to Havana, We have blue shirts on. It's sunny, and we are wearing sun glasses....hit it....
Jim Morris http://www.jim-morris.com/home.htm
Steve Huntington http://www.radiomargaritaville.com/
and me out behind the stage at the Casa Marina hotel. I think I had my favorite blue shirt on for every picture that was taken on that sunny day!

Ed Bradley. You Were the Best.

Fred Tackett (Little Feat), Jimmy B., and Ted Badley at Margaritaville May 2006 in New Orleans. (Thanks Michael J for the picture) I have a picture somewhere back in this web log where I was talking to Paul B of Little Feat in Charlotte just a few short days before this show in NOLA. I asked him if he was fired up for the show and he said yes. This was a private show during Jazzfest and I would have loved to have been there. Little did I know that Ed would not last the year. As you can see from the picture they were having a blast that night and I still remember listening to that show. Very cool indeed. They are playing the version of "Sixty Minute Man" from this show on radiomargaritaville. I asked Steve Huntington of Radiomargaritaville fame about this recently and he told me it was "in the rotation." So listen in for the song. I will miss Ed. He was buried this morning and a service was held for him today in NYC. Rock on Ed, you were great. When I make it to see you you will have to share your Lena Horne story with me. Can't wait pal. Posted by Picasa
