Junior Brown!

http://www.juniorbrown.com/

Junior Brown is one amazing performer. He hails from Austin, Texas and we were very fortunate to see him at the Blind Tiger in Greensboro. He came on saying very little, virtually walking in the place from the parking lot after adjusting his tie in the travel van mirror. I thought quietly that he really deserves a nice green room. He did go back there after the show but that was an interesting moment.

Junior plays without a break, non-stop with a minimal band on stage. He had his drummer on stage with a very small drum kit and a bass player. That was it. I will say with this stripped-down effect he managed to keep the crowd mesmerized during the entire show. His playing speed is blinding and I cannot believe someone can play this hard for 90 minutes without a single break. One smoking song flew into another and the melodies of surf music to rock to country flew out of the speakers. It seemed only moments later it was over. It was a very intense show and was every bit as good as a large shed show with a name-brand rock band.

Go see this man play. You will not be disappointed. He is awesome.

Here are a few very cool videos to check out:

This is my favorite:

The Guit-Steel...

The close-up shot of the "guit-steel" in Junior Brown's hands. Oh man what a show. More on the show in a moment.

I have just walked down Spring Garden Street

On the way to the Blind Tiger from the coffee shop. This is the Spring Garden Street sign near Chapman where a fabulous guitar repair shop used to live. It is now a nice coffee shop where some of my pals play on Thursday nights.
