I was talking to Rick Derringer last night....

http://www.rickderringer.com/

Last night Rick was featured on a podcast on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/runt Todd Rundgren Talk Radio. Such a cool way to use technology. One host in Birmingham, Alabama and one on Los Angeles. Rick was in Nashville. So very cool.

Rick has just released a brand new collection of blues songs called "Knighted by the Blues." I downloaded the whole thing on Itunes last Tuesday when it was released. The cool thing about this whole project was Rick was telling everyone on facebook about the cd as it was being created. It is very good. You can tell you are listening to a master guitarist in action. I won't step through the whole review of the cd just go sample it on Itunes or buy the cd.

As I talked to Rick last night I mostly just sang the praises of his new release. The fidelity of the music is very good and the tracks are quite nice. So naturally I started into a rant about the niceness of the sound of the recording.

All of that said it was nice to even say a few words to a living music legend who looks very good for his age and seems to really have his whole life together. Rick has an outstanding connection to his fans. I really like that from someone who toured with the Stones in 1966, played a classic like 'Hang on Sloopy" with the McCoys and has played exclusively with The Winter Brothers, aka Johnny and Edgar. Of course he played with the likes of Steely Dan and Todd Rundgren. He has too many solo albums to elaborate on here...It just goes on and on....he is the man!

It was a nice night last night. It is good to live in the age that we have this kind of technology to connect with people who play the music we love. Rock n' Roll Hoochie Koo.

I couldn't stop movin' when it first took hold
It was a warm spring night at the old town hall
There was a band called The Jokers, they were layin' it down
Doncha know I'm never gonna lose that funky sound
Rock 'n' Roll, Hoochie Koo
Lawdy mama light my fuse
Rock 'n' Roll, Hoochie Koo
Truck on out and spread the news...

A Note from Nashville...

I got this note today from my pal Brad in Nashville who works with JD Souther.

http://www.jdsouther.net/

Brad told me this new track was coming soon and now here it is. I should give Brad a shout-out as he is from my home town here in North Carolina. When you add that to the fact that I am a huge fan of JD who is not only a talent but also a very nice guy and well I just have to do what I can for a crew like that.. What a small world it is.

Anyway...I have been looking forward to hearing this track so I thought I would pass it on for everyone to take advantage of the offer:

Sign up today for the Official JD Souther mailing list and receive your exclusive free mp3 download of the Souther/Frey/Henley penned classic hit, 'New Kid In Town', recently recorded by JD at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville, TN.

Don't miss a great opportunity to download this previously unreleased
live classic for a limited time only.

By signing up for JD's mailing list you will be the first to receive
the latest information on JD's upcoming tour dates and special offers.

As I listen to this track I am thinking "When is this live album coming out?"
This takes me back to the show I saw in February of this year. I would buy an album of this live material in a New York minute. Go sign up and download this track while you still can. I'll see you down the road.

Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Will she still love you when you're not around?
There's so many things you should have told her,
but night after night you're willing to hold her,
Just hold her, tears on your shoulder
